Marvin Earl Johnson 。R\u0026amp;Bグループ／ザ・セレネーダーズ（The Serenaders）で活動していたところを、モータウン設立以前のベリー・ゴーディーJr.に見出されソロ歌手として独立。1959年にゴーディーが立ち上げたTAMLAレーベルから「Come to Me」でデビューし、間もなく彼らの作品はUNITED ARTISTSレーベルからディストリビュートされてナショナルヒットを記録した。1959-1961年の間に同レーベルから「You Got What It Takes」、「I Love The Way You Love」、「(You've Got To) Move Two Mountains」等をヒットさせていく。ベリー・ゴーディーJr.にとっては、自らのトータルプロデュースによりマーヴをメインストリームで成功させていく事は、メジャー音楽業界との関係性を構築し、モータウン自体を成功に導く為の鍛錬の時期という重要さを持っていたと考えられる。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cscript
