Around」といった“サーフ＆ホットロッド”をテーマにしたロックンロールで人気を博す。初期は主にザ・フォー・フレッシュメンやジャン＆ディーンのコーラス・スタイルと、チャック・ベリーのロックンロールをブレンドさせた独自のロックンロールとして影響力を持った。1964年の暮れ頃からリーダーのブライアン・ウィルソンはライヴ遠征には同行せず、スタジオワークに重点を置く様になり、クリエイティヴな作品作りやアルバムの制作に取り組み、1965年にはアルバム『Today!』と『Summer Days』を発表。ブライアンの情熱はさらに増し、1966年には遂にロック・アルバムの金字塔と呼ばれる名盤『Pet Sounds』を完成させ、同年にはこれまた傑作のシングル「Good
