Man」は1953年まで売れ続け、ミリオンセラーを超える特大クロスオーバーヒットとなる。その「The Fat Man」で聞けるアール・パーマー(Drums)の演奏による、バックビートを強調したドラムスのリズムは、以降のロックンロールやポピュラー・ミュージックで用いられるリズムの基本として重要視されている。50年代前半にはプロフェッサー・ロングヘアに影響を受けたブギ・ピアノを録音し、1955年の「Ain't That a Shame」あたりから徐々にロックンロール時代に対応したR\u0026amp;Bでヒットチャートの常連となっていく事になる。ほかにも「Blueberry Hill」、「When My Dreamboat Comes Home」、「I'm Walkin'」、「Valley of Tears」、「It's You I Love」、「Whole Lotta Loving」、「I Want to Walk You Home」、「Be My Guest」等のミリオンセラーとなった作品も多く、トータルでのレコード・セールス数は、エルヴィス・プレスリー、レイ・チャールズ、ブレンダ・リーらとも並ぶと言われている50年代の大物スターである。1956年には映画『Shake, Rattle \u0026amp; Rock!』と『The Girl Can't Help It』にも出演し、ロックンロール・スターとしての人気を確立。また黄金期といえるIMPERIALレーベル時代の録音は、デイヴ・バーソロミューの演奏によるニューオーリーンズ三連サウンドに乗せて、ゆったりと暖かく歌うヴォーカル・スタイルで人気を博した。1962年頃からは徐々にチャート上位のヒット曲も減りはじめ、1963年にはABC
